What makes shantelle Different?

Shantelle McBride is the founder and CEO of Hello Beautiful Birth, a place where intuitive compassion, advocacy, companionship, and spiritual healing accompany individuals and families through pregnancy, labor and delivery, adoption, miscarriage, abortion, and stillbirth. Shantelle is a DONA International trained Birth Doula, a Stillbirthday trained Bereavement Doula®, (SBD), and a Birth Becomes Her trained Birth Photographer, (BBCBP). She holds a BA in Education from Western Governors University (WGU) and is currently an undergraduate at Midwives College of Utah (MCU) where she is preparing to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Midwife (LM) that practices the Midwives Model of Care.

why invest in shantelle
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

To provide birthing people with caring emotional support, loving physical support, and competent informational support during late pregnancy, labor, birth, and early postpartum. To diligently offer services to anyone who needs them regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, and/or lifestyle. To provide continuous care; to honor every birth; to treat all birthing people and their partners with integrity and respect; to collect resources for birthing people to make informed decisions; and to help birthing people and their partners feel heard, supported, and empowered.
I champion birthing people and their partners to embrace their power, to advocate for themselves, and to make informed decisions. Studies have shown that when a person feels supported during childbirth, they feel empowered and more confident in their abilities. I believe in the inherent dignity of every person. Birthing people have a right to humane treatment and respect in birth. I meet clients where they are, honoring their choice of where and how to birth. I care about those I serve as individuals, and value differences.
I interact with a gentle, non-judgmental heart. I recognize and meet the needs of the birthing person, ultimately trusting their journey and preserving their desires without forcing an agenda. I am committed to the HBB Mission and believe no one should have to birth alone. I provide physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and early postpartum.
I believe that every birth is valuable, unique, and significant. The quality and experience of each birth has an all-encompassing and lasting effect on birthing people and their partners. This life-changing event creates an unparalleled opportunity for personal growth and transformation for everyone involved.
Shantelle advocates for her client's wishes as expressed in the client’s birth plan, in prenatal conversations, and intrapartum discussion, by encouraging her client to ask questions of her care provider and to express her preferences and concerns. Shantelle helps the mother incorporate changes in plans if/when the need arises, and enhances the communication between client and care provider. Shantelle does not speak on behalf of the client or make decisions for the client. The advocacy role is best described as support, information, and mediation.
Dona International Standards and Certification apply to emotional, physical and informational support only. As a doula, Shantelle does not perform clinical or medical tasks, such as taking blood pressure or temperature, fetal heart tone checks, vaginal examinations or postpartum clinical care. Shantelle will not diagnose or treat in any modality.
Shantelle accompanies women in labor, provides emotional and physical support, suggests comfort measures, and provides support and suggestions for the partner. Whenever possible, Shantelle provides pre- and post-partum emotional support, including explanation and discussion of practices and procedures, and assistance in acquiring the knowledge necessary for the client to make informed decisions about their own care. Additionally, Shantelle does not “prescribe” treatment. Any suggestions or information provided within her role as a doula must be done with the proviso that Shantelle advises her client to check with the primary care provider before using any application.
Shantelle has completed a Dona International approved birth doula workshop and is in the process of or has completed her certification. Shantelle maintains her credentials and re-certifies with Dona International every three years, as required.
Shantelle will provide back-up arrangements with another doula to ensure services to the client if Shantelle is unable to attend the birth. Should Shantelle feel a need to discontinue service to an established client, she will notify the client in writing and arrange for a replacement, if the client so desires.
For client needs beyond the scope of Shantelle’s training, referrals are made to appropriate resources.
The safety of Shantelle and her clients is top priority here at Hello Beautiful Birth. She would like to reassure you that she is taking all precautions advised by WHO and the CDC to maintain a sterile environment whether she is in your home or accompanying you in a hospital setting. Shantelle wears a mask and washes her hands thoroughly before, during, and after each birth session. Hand sanitizer is kept within reach in her personal belongings as well for easy access when needed. Before she leaves her home, Shantelle regularly monitors her temperature, and she keeps disposable gloves nearby while serving her clients to use when requested or needed.
Shantelle is honest, dependable, and an incredibly hard worker. It has been evident since she joined my team that she can be relied upon to fulfill whatever tasks are set before her. In addition, she does it all with a great attitude! Shantelle is also a problem-solver who is able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. When studying to become a certified birth doula, I could hear in her voice the extraordinary passion she has for birth-related work. I admire Shantelle for dedicating herself to supporting women during pregnancy and childbirth. I know anything that Shantelle puts her mind to, she will do and do well.
Shantelle has always demonstrated responsibility and a resilient spirit. When she told me about her desire to become a doula and midwife, I knew right away that those vocations were the perfect fit for her. As a former labor and delivery nurse, a current postpartum nurse, and mother of three, I recognized the desire and drive in Shantelle’s eyes immediately. Her warm and compassionate spirit is exactly what people in the vulnerable state of giving birth need. I watched with interest as Shantelle has pursued her education and interest in maternal health. Her motivation has been enlightening, and her enthusiasm is quite contagious.
As your potential doula and/or photographer, I already want you to get the support you and your partner need for your birth experience, but not every doula or photographer is right for every person! Let's chat and see if we are a good fit. Just fill out the form below so we can connect, then we'll set up your free initial consultation. Are you ready to get this BIRTHday party started! I look forward to meeting with you!
